Something New - Locals Favorites

Here at Locals we’re starting something new; a feature on our website titled Locals Favorites. Every so often we’ll be posting information about something in the area that is recommended by a local. Something you’d have to live around here to know about! It’s the place to check in when you’re planning a trip to the area and want to know how to make the absolute best of your two or three days or hey…maybe you’re really lucky and you’ve got a whole week to check out some of our suggestions! In any case, we’re here to tell you where to go - well, you know what we mean. Our idea is to help you avoid the traps, and find the treasures.

Please keep in mind that these are just personal opinions about places we go ourselves and discoveries we’ve made in the neighborhood. We are by no means objective, nor are we professional reviewers of anything. We’re just a bunch of locals who want to tell you about places around here that we love and maybe share some of our best discoveries. Every time we give you the inside scoop on something, we’ll finish up with an extra “insiders tip”. Every time except this time that is, because this time….the tip is the headline: You’ve got just four weeks to go to Locals Tasting Room in Geyserville and pick up some Olio Nuevo!

If you’re like most of us that was a bit anti-climactic because you have no idea what olio nuevo is. And why should you, it’s not exactly something you come across everyday. Turns out, it’s the good stuff! Olive oil before it goes in the bottle. Did you know you could buy it that way? We didn’t. But you can, and right now Locals in Geyserville has a limited amount of it, and they’ll bottle it for you right there while you wait, but only for the next four weeks – or as long as the supply lasts. The oil we’re talking about is the 2007 release of Skipstone Ranch’s Melina’s Harvest Olive Oil. Now the folks at Skipstone will tell you that the oil is “bright and floral, with notes of fresh cut grass and banana.” Wow. We have to admit, our palate is not quite that sophisticated. As we see it, it’s just some of the best olive oil we’ve ever tasted.

Skipstone Ranch will be bottling only 150 cases of this delicious olive oil, and when they do, they’ll be selling it for $25 a bottle. Right now at Locals a bottle of Olio Nuevo is only $18! So go by Locals Tasting Room in Geyserville and ask the folks there to fill you up a bottle or two.

Be sure to check back here for more tips from Locals Favorites!

The Details: The cost per bottle is $18. Locals Tasting Room provides the bottles. It never hurts to call first and make sure the oil is still available. You can call the tasting room at 707-857-4900. Click here for directions and tasting room hours.
