New Years exploded in Bodega Bay, restaurants and hotels were packed for the weekend as revelers flocked to the coast for a quick getaway. Clear skies, the sun sparkling on the ocean, breath-taking
sunsets and calm winds have brought many to find peace only the coast can provide.
The Stewards whale watch has begun with the generous cooperation of the gray whales and their newborn heading home to Alaska. A number of the moms were spotted both at Bodega Head and Point Reyes Lighthouse over the weekend. The volunteers from the Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods will be assisting the public each weekend until Mother’s Day, excluding Easter and Fisherman’s Festival weekends, April 24, April 30, May 1.
This year’s crab catch has been more than plentiful, with both local fishermen and boats from farther north arriving at the docks teaming with the catch. There will be a number of Crab Feeds, the next being the Bodega Bay Grange’s annual Cioppino Crab Feed at the Grange Hall January 16, and several at the Tides Wharf January 28, February 11 and 25 and March 4.
Ten restaurants will be competing in the annual Chowder Day in Bodega Bay on Saturday January 29. Stop by the Visitors Center from 11 – 3 to get your pass – your map to the participating restaurants. It’s also a great time to pick up some super fresh crab and join the Stewards for some whale gazing.
Recent rains have helped deliver a number of beautiful waterfalls at many of the beaches along the coast. All ten county beaches remain open year round and most state beaches are open, a few of the state park parking areas or restrooms are temporarily closed through Spring.
February brings the St. Teresa's Annual Polenta Feed at the Bodega Volunteer Fire Department on February 5, and many are reserving now for that romantic sunset dinner for Valentines Day at the many seaside restaurants in Bodega Bay.
