While the day started dampish, the enthusiasm that came from the attendees – was infectious. Over 827 maps were purchased with donations to the Fireworks, bringing in over $4,000 – a huge start.
Rosco the hound dawg from the Sacramento area managed to have his owner bring him over to have a taste of the chowda. Rosco commented, “It was a howling success!!!”
This year over 10 restaurants participated: Blue Water Bistro, Brisas del Mar, Duck Club, Island Style Deli, The Tides Wharf, The Boat House, Rockers Oysterfellers, The Bodega Country Store, the Boathouse, The Sandpiper and this year’s winner – Spud Point Crab Co. Numbers were closer than ever before – all in all no losers. The feeling of the majority of the attendees – was that all the “regulars” upped their game, and it was good to try the restaurants that hadn’t participated in the past.

Classic, Sinful. Sweet, Rich, Creamy, Bacony. Too Fishy, Plump clams, Not enough veggies, Too many veggies, Oceany flavor, Buttery, Too Thick, Too Thin, Sea Foody, Dilly, Shi Shi, Tuna tasting, Soupy, Silky, No Nonsense chowder, Smokey, Fog Chowder, Scrumptious, Bloody Mary Good – I want more.
Restaurants and businesses were more than generous with the coupons this year. Please come back and make use of them – they’re not good for just that day.
The event was designed to encourage people to come to Bodega Bay during the winter when it’s traditionally slower pace. This day – Speed Tasting and Speed eating were the norm. Tums could have been handed out after sampling all 10. People who had never been to Bodega Bay were amazed at how much we had to offer and the variety of chowder and soups offered. This year even gluten free was offered.
Some people asked to do a wine and chowder tasting – and sorry folks, that won’t happen. Too many things to deal with.
